Janet Torge is no fan of traditional residences and nursing homes for the elderly. And she just hates the phrase “aging in place.”
Torge, 68, a freelance documentary producer and former traffic reporter at CBC Radio’s Daybreak, has a vision for a new type of housing, designed by and for the seniors who live there.
Five years ago, she incorporated Radical Resthomes, an initiative to develop alternative housing projects for the baby boom generation — people now between age 50 and 69.
“There are a lot of boomers who at some point took care of parents and said, ‘We’re not going to do this,’ ” Torge says.
